Send an Instant Message to Tariana Turia, Co-Leader of the Maori Party: MY NAME: MY EMAIL: POSTAL ADDRESS: Kia ora Tariana, I would like to know who gave Ministry of Foreign Affairs officials the mandate to make the comments recorded on 20 October at the UN relating to the Draft Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. Cabinet hadn't even met. Do you know if the Minister of Foreign Affairs signed-off this change in position? Do you know why government changed its position without informing Maori nationally? Do you know why MFAT made such a radical shift? Do you support the original wording of the Draft Declaration? If not, why not? To date the New Zealand government has undertaken very little consultation with Maori and other interested sectors of the public on these issues and in determining what the official government position will be. Do you know if plans are in place to open up the consultation process on the government position in my region/rohe? I look forward to your response.
